The best way to get into marketing is to start marketing yourself. You might find it valuable and the good thing is - If you're already thinking about the future and what you should be doing to make sure you are successful. Here's some of my key tips on how I was able to break into the industry. It's given me tons of opportunities and I think anyone willing to hustle can make this industry work for them as well. It all depends on how good you are, your ability to negotiate and where you live in the world. In all of these spaces, there are opportunities that could pay you anywhere from $30k - $80k. All of these things make paid media a solid space to specialize in and focus on. You need to understand the complexities of targeting, remarketing, different networks, different ad units, etc. The interesting thing about online media is that it's not as simple as putting up a billboard on the side of the road.

If you can be specialized in understanding how to optimize content, websites and videos for search traffic - You have a chance to get a job pretty quickly out of school.

The job prospects for marketing are on the rise but across the board, organizations are often looking for skills that most schools have yet to start teaching students. (I’ve been thinking about doing finance or accounting but I know for a fact I will hate boring clerical work and putting in data in computers all day every day for 50 years).Įdit: oh shit thanks for all the responses!!Įdit: also, not be rude but why do people I talk to about marketing know so much info but are broke? I will literally do anything but I want to be certain that I’m not wasting my time picking the major or in college as a whole. I just want a clear path and how to become successful with my marketing degree if I choose to do so. It stresses me out that people with college degrees aren’t getting jobs out of college or they make little money doing this so called “secure” job when college is done. People are saying that they are getting sales jobs like trying to sell a cell phone plan at Walmart all day and that’s completely not what I want to do. (I kind of picture it as a group of people at a table coming up with ideas all day and it being really fun) BUT i want to know if it’s really like that. I am attracted to the aspect of marketing with the creative ideas, helping companies by pitching ideas, analyzing things, etc.

However, I’m researching the degree and although it is required in some cases, people are saying it’s useless. I’m a creative person and want to be creative in the job i choose as a career.

Currently in college and can’t choose what to major in.
